Backend Architect & Developer | 2022-2025

Following the BDL Project, I helped design and implement the Smart WallBox, a production-grade electric vehicle charging platform to be integrated into the BMW MyApp ecosystem. The system was built from the ground up using a microservices and Kubernetes (IaC) architecture deployed on Microsoft Azure Cloud. My primary responsibility was to architect and develop backend services using NestJS, ensuring seamless integration with BMW/CTW's runtime infrastructure. Key contributions include: Designed and implemented scalable backend microservices to compose and serve real-time data between wallbox systems and BMW backend services. Built a secure, production-grade system with standards for scalability, monitoring, traceability, and auditability. Contributed to infrastructure automation and CI/CD workflows following Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles.

BDL Project - Critical TechWorks / BMW Group

Contributed to the research and development of a bidirectional charging system using a fleet of 20 BMW i3 vehicles equipped with BMW BDL batteries. Helped architect and build the system from the ground up, developing both a web application for test users and an operations cockpit for support and research. Designed and implemented a serverless backend using AWS Lambda (Python), API Gateway, and SQS, with fault tolerance and graceful degradation. Created Infrastructure as Code foundations with AWS CloudFormation. Developed an asynchronous communication pattern linking HTTP requests to WebSocket responses for complex error handling. Achieved 80%+ test coverage through unit and integration testing, despite evolving R&D requirements. Refactored and modularized code to ensure scalability and future production readiness. Implemented advanced security and logging, including AWS Secrets Manager, SES for secure emails, and Cognito for pre-authenticated pilot user onboarding. Played a key role in the successful on-schedule go-live, with zero incidents.

EVC Project - Critical TechWorks / BMW Group

Joined Critical TechWorks, a joint venture between BMW Group and Critical Software, as part of the Electric Vehicle Charger (EVC) project. The EVC system was built using a Node.js and React stack deployed on Azure Cloud with a Kubernetes microservices architecture and Terraform-based IaC.The project focused on the research and development of a web application for communication and control of electric vehicle chargers via the OCPP 1.6 protocol. This initiative served as an early-stage solution, later succeeded by next-generation charging projects within the BMW ecosystem. Key contributions include: Developed and maintained backend and frontend components in Node.js and React. Contributed to microservices orchestration and cloud infrastructure provisioning with Kubernetes and Terraform. Supported integration of the OCPP 1.6 protocol for real-time EV charger communication. Collaborated with cross-functional teams in the BMW ecosystem to ensure system stability and scalability.
